Thunder Athletics Recap for August 27
The NCC Thunder soccer teams hosted Southeastern Community College on Wednesday, August 27, in a thrilling doubleheader that featured a dominating women's victory and a hard-fought men's battle.
Women's Soccer: NCC Thunder 3, Southeastern CC 1
Yuri Ramirez recorded a hat trick (3 goals), striking early with two quick scores in the first six minutes of play. Juliana Zamorano added an assist on Ramirez's second goal.
The Thunder dominated the remainder of the first half, with multiple players taking shots on goal. After halftime, Southeastern scored in the 77th minute to cut the lead to 2–1. Ramirez answered in the 86th minute with her third goal of the contest, sealing the 3–1 victory for NCC.
Goalkeeper Alexis Hernandez had a light day, facing only two shots on goal and making one save.
Men's Soccer: NCC Thunder 2, Southeastern CC 4
In an intense match, the Thunder fell in a 4–2 heartbreaker against the Bobcats.
NCC opened the scoring when Warren Traina found the back of the net off an assist from Ian Troncoso. A Southeastern red card reduced the Bobcats to 10 men, but they managed to equalize before halftime, making it 1–1 at the break.
The Thunder came out energized in the second half. Troncoso stole the ball from a defender for a breakaway attempt that was initially saved by the keeper. He followed up on the rebound to score, putting NCC ahead 2–1. The Thunder held the lead until the final 10 minutes, when Southeastern equalized off a corner kick. SCC added two more late goals to close out the game, handing NCC the 4–2 loss.
