Bio

Eric Francis is in his second year with the Northwest Iowa Community College Athletic Department, serving as Athletic Director and Director of Recreation. He began his role at Northwest Iowa in the summer of 2024, providing leadership for the department and guiding the newly established men’s and women’s soccer programs through their inaugural seasons.

A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, Francis earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in All Social Sciences with Secondary Teaching (5–12) endorsement. Prior to UNI, he attended Iowa Central Community College, where he earned an Associate of Arts degree and Coaching Authorization. Francis also spent time at the University of Iowa, working with the athletic facilities department and assisting with the setup and preparation for Iowa Hawkeye athletic events. It was during his time at the University of Iowa that he solidified his passion for athletics and supporting student-athletes in showcasing their skills and hard work in competitive environments.

In his second year at Northwest Iowa Community College, Francis has overseen the expansion of the athletic department by adding Women’s Volleyball and Men’s Golf, both set to begin competition in Fall 2026. He provides overall direction for the athletic and recreation programs and oversees responsibilities including event management, compliance and eligibility, personnel management, public relations, and departmental operations.

Francis began his professional career in education as a teacher and coach at Estherville Lincoln Central, followed by a stop at South Central Calhoun, before completing his high school tenure at Pocahontas Area. While at Pocahontas Area, he served as Girls’ Basketball Coach, Activities Director, and Dean of Students. His basketball coaching career includes honors such as two-time Regional Coach of the Year, District Coach of the Year, and an appearance at the Iowa State Tournament.

Francis resides in Sheldon, Iowa, with his wife, Brianne, and their three children—Camden, Cohen, and Lainey.
